SOS at Carol's Farm

                                      Composting AT Carol's

On January 31, we met together at Carol Parsley's for a fun and informational get together and workday!  We Pruned trees and cleaned out beds.
We toured Carol's  Chicken  Palace  and admired all her beautiful hens.

Then we went to Carol's composting area where she uses her chicken bedding to make nice fertile compost.  She taught us how she mixes everything together to make a nice rich compost for her garden.....It was very interesting and she uses wooden pallets to make her compost bins.  It sounds like a lot of hard  work to me.  I just want all the stuff to turn into nice rich compost all by itself.  No such luck~~~~~

Carol just zip ties the pallets together ...I think I can do that.

After the demo of composting we had a delicious brunch of potato soup pigs in a blanket, juice or milk and yummy giant Oatmeal cookies!!

But the fun didn't end there~~~  Carol taught us how to make scoops out of plastic bottles and and provided a bottle with the pattern on it for each of us.  She also showed us how to make grocery / market bags out of feed sacks and other bags.  They were so cute! I wish she would have made us all one!!  She gave us a handout of her composting technique and gave us all a cookie for the road!  We were well fed and well taught this month.  It was lots of fun and we had a great time.

We are happy to have Sybil LaPray in our group as well!
